Power Generation IBEW Local Union 1191

The PGD JSC had a Combined LJASC meeting March 13, 2008 with in Juno Beach all plants were represented.

As of this writing there are 2 OSHA recordable injuries in PGD.

Martin Plant just finished an Outage on Unit 2 in December of 2007 that was followed by an outage on unit 3. There will be short outages throughout the year on units 4, 2 and 8. On the Unit 2 outage there was one OSHA recordable injury involving a Central maintenance employee. Duke Clements who has been on the LJASC for a number of years and has done and continues to do a great job. Duke is also Gary Aleknavich’s appointment representing the Power Generation bargaining Unit on the Power Generation Division JSC.

Riviera Plant just finished an outage with out injuries, the Riviera Plant also reach a mile stone of 1 year with out an OSHA recordable injury or First Aid Cases. There is also going to be an opening on the LJASC at the Riviera Plant with Larry Scrivani transferring the West County Plant. I would like to Thank Larry for the work he has done in Safety and the Local Unions best wishes at the West County Plant. Mike Farrell has agreed to become the Safety Committeeman at the Riviera plant. Please give Mike any help he may need and a thank you for looking out for the Safety of members.

FOS is working on the combustors, and pumps for throughout the system. Lee Harkey who works at FOS is on the Committeeman at FOS and also Gary Aleknavich’s appointment representing the Power Generation Central Maintenance Bargaining Unit on the Power Generation Division JSC

West County Plant is progressing on schedule; the plant has received most of the Bargaining Unit Employees as of this writing. When all the Bargaining Unit employees arrive then will discuss naming a Safety Committeeman and an Advisor for the LJASC.

2007 Year End Newsletter

As the end of 2007 nears, we have high hopes and expectations that our members took the time to contribute to the contract proposal process which ended December 1st. Local 1191 will attend the System Council Meeting in February 2008, where all proposals will be reviewed and categorized.

With the management changes in FPL over the past six months, we anticipate clear information on which direction we will take for 2008.

Some ongoing issues are:

Take back URD work from the contractors, clarifying equipment and manpower needed.

Resolve customer long term outages versus Blue-Sky policy for RS’s with stacked tickets.

Clarify how and by whom street lights will be worked.

Decision on staffing Journeymen in Line, Substation and yet to be discussed Power Generation.

Hands on training and qualifying in switching and gloving for Journeymen in Power Systems.

Support and assist our leadership in TSC and LJAC duties.

Seek clear guidance and direction from our Safety Committees for PSJSC, PDJSC and PGDJSC.

Officer change announcement:

I wish to thank our dedicated and knowledgeable Brother Brad Baldwin for his service as Treasurer, who has gone on LTD in December. He will be replaced by E-board member Brother Pete LaCroix.

Also our Financial Secretary “extraordinaire” Brother Kevin Mueller has made a position at the Stuart Service Center. He will be a member of Local 627 and will be replaced by Brother David Drew. I would like to thank Brother Kevin Mueller for all the countless ways he has helped this Local become what it is today.
